Colic in Infants: Can Chiropractic Care Really Help?

This post was written for Doulas of Utah by our friends at Statera Chiropractic.

When your baby cries for hours each day, despite being fed, changed, and comforted, it can leave parents feeling helpless and exhausted. If your baby cries for more than three hours a day, at least three days a week, it’s often labeled as colic. And while many are told it’s something babies will “just grow out of,” the truth is that these intense crying spells are your baby’s way of communicating that something deeper is going on.

Looking Deeper Than the Surface

Traditionally, colic has been blamed on digestive upset, gas, reflux, or sensitivities. But when the usual fixes like probiotics, formula changes, or gas drops don’t work, parents are left wondering what’s really wrong.

At Statera Chiropractic, we help families understand that colic often stems from the nervous system, not just the stomach. Tension or misalignment (called subluxation) in the spine and neck, often caused by birth stress or in-utero constraint, can interfere with how the brain and body communicate. This stress can affect digestion, sleep, and comfort, leaving your baby stuck in a cycle of tension and tears.

The Nervous System and the Birth Experience

This is where the partnership between doulas and chiropractors makes such a powerful difference for families. Doulas support parents and babies through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, helping to create calm, connection, and confidence during these transformative moments. Chiropractors then help ensure that both parents’ and baby’s nervous systems are balanced and functioning optimally after birth.

Together, doulas and chiropractors provide full-circle care, supporting the emotional and physical well-being of both the parents and the baby. When a doula recognizes signs of stress, feeding difficulty, or colic, referring families for a gentle chiropractic evaluation can often uncover the neurological tension at the root of the problem.

Hope for Families

At Statera Chiropractic, we use gentle, neurologically-focused adjustments to release that tension and restore calm to the nervous system. Parents frequently notice their babies begin to settle more easily, sleep longer, and feed more comfortably.

Colic isn’t something you just have to “wait out.” With the combined support of your doula and chiropractor, your family can uncover the true cause of your baby’s distress and find natural, lasting relief, helping your little one (and you) finally rest and thrive.
