In a space free of judgment, parents can explore every option regarding pregnancy; how they give birth, how they care for their babies and…you guessed it, what they do with their placentas. When making your postpartum plan, placenta encapsulation is most definitely a beneficial option to consider.
Because western medicine takes a while to catch up with eastern medicine, there has not been a lot of scientific research done regarding the benefits of placenta consumption. The little bit that has been done, though, showed some tremendous benefits regarding milk supply. On the other hand, the anecdotal evidence of placenta encapsulation shows resounding benefits across the world.
Parents are sharing with other parents just how much of a difference placenta encapsulation for consumption made for their postpartum recovery!
These benefits include:
- Increased milk supply
- Assistance with hormone balance
- Reduction of postpartum bleeding
- Increase of iron levels
- Increased energy
- Reduction of postpartum blues
- Reduced stress levels
- Positive postpartum experience
At Doulas of Utah, we know just how precious these benefits are to you. Because we understand the sacredness of this time and the importance of your health and safety, we treat every precious placenta with the care it deserves.
Our placenta encapsulation specialists have been trained and certified to encapsulate placentas, and they have also completed Bloodborne Pathogen Certification.
You have two options to choose from for your placenta encapsulation: to have the process completed in your own home or to have the placenta specialist pick up the placenta and drop off the completed capsules to you.
If you choose the in-home encapsulation option, this is what that process will look like:
Our placenta encapsulation specialist will bring all of the necessary equipment. She will visit on two back-to-back days. On day one, she will clean, steam, and prep your placenta for dehydration. Before the specialist leaves, the dehydrator will be set up so that overnight the moisture can be removed from the placenta. The following day, she will return to process it by crushing it into powder and placing it into vegan capsules for easy consumption.
If you choose the pick up/drop off option, you will simply notify your placenta encapsulation specialist of when your baby has been born so that she can pick up the placenta, complete the same process as listed above in her own home, and return the capsules to you once they are completed. You will receive your capsules usually 2-3 days after the placenta is picked up.
